Biomass Suppliers List

BSL Logo

Woodpellets2U and its parent company CPL Industries are recognised as an approved BSL supplier. The Biomass Suppliers List lists all suppliers whose biomass fuels meet the government’s environmental objectives. From autumn 2015 it is a requirement of RHI claimants that they purchase fuel from a BSL supplier.

What the criteria are:

1. Biomass fuel used by RHI participants must meet a lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions target of 34.8g CO2 equivalent per MJ of heat, or 60% GHG savings against the EU fossil fuel average.

2. Land Criteria: Biomass fuel must meet land criteria, which will differ for different types of biomass:

  • For woodfuel: the criteria are outlined in the UK Timber Standard for Heat and Electricity: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/timber-standard-for-heat-electricity
  • For other types of biomass: it is intended that land criteria will correspond to the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) for transport biofuels and bioliquids. Energy crops which have been assessed as meeting the requirements of the Energy Crops Scheme or equivalent will be deemed to meet land criteria.

Woodpellets2U EnPlusA1

ENPlusA1

Woodpellets2U was the first distributor in the UK to achieve the ENPlusA1 standard for the quality of their product and service. This is the highest attainable standard for wood pellet fuel.

ENPlus takes the uncertainty out of buying wood pellets. When buying ENPlus certified pellets from an ENPlus certified distributor, you know exactly what you’re buying and that you’re dealing with a reputable company that is serious about product quality.

How does ENPlus work?

Both wood pellet manufacturers and distributors need to be licensed as ENPlus suppliers. This is because both the manufacturing process and the delivery process are critical in ensuring that high quality pellets are delivered to the end user. Buying wood pellets through an ENPlusA1 certified trader ensures that the pellets delivered to you are the same quality as was loaded at the mill.

Manufacturers are required to carry out annual plant audits and regular pellet testing by an accredited organisation. Production and internal quality control procedures are also regularly checked to ensure they comply with the standards required. Distributors have to meet quality standards for vehicles, driver training, and documentation. After passing an initial assessment, continued licensing is carried out by self certification, with distributors subject to random inspections.

Adhering to ENPlusA1 standards ensures that you have security in the fact that your wood pellets can be quickly traced back to the source, and we have a complete chain of custody in the unlikely event that any problems should arise.
