Premium payments attract homeowners to wood pellet heating

As part of the Renewable Heat Incentive the government is launching a premium payment scheme, which will pay out money to householders to help them afford renewable heating sources. These could be, for instance, solar panels or biomass boilers which run off wood pellets.

There is approximately £15million available from this scheme, which will provide £950 to help fit a new biomass boiler. The biomass boiler is only currently available for those not currently using gas heating, and the installation must be completed by 31st March 2012 to be eligible for the grant.

With heating gas prices continuing their rise, renewable heat sources such as wood pelletbiomass boilers are an increasingly attractive proposition and with the available funding from the government, the renewable route is likely to go from strength to strength.
