RHI Premium Payments
Domestic users installing a wood pellet boiler today are expected to be able to apply for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) from Spring 2014. In the meantime, domestic users can also apply for a Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) which is worth £950 towards the cost of a new wood pellet boiler.
However to be eligible users must meet certain conditions, including:
- Users must be living in an area that is not connected to the gas grid and are therefore using alternative heating sources such as oil, LPG, solid fuel or electricity
- The property must be the main home
- Where practical loft insulation to a depth of 250mm and cavity wall insulation must be installed
- The wood pellet boiler system being installed must be registed under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and must be installed by a registered MCS installer
The RHPP is being administered by the Energy Saving Trust and runs from 1st May 2012 to 31st March 2014.
The great thing for users is that those awarded an RHPP will be able to apply for support under the Renewable Heat Incentive as well. The RHI will be extended to dometic users as part of the Green Deal, expected in October 2013. This means domestic users who act now, will get the best deal!
